Accra, Nov. 25, GNA – Accra Hearts of Oak were held to a 2-2 draw by AshantiGold in a fascinating game played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Kwadwo Obeng Junior scored a brace for Hearts while Hans Kwofie also delivered a brace for the away side as spoils were shared.
AshantiGold started the game on the front foot stringing some beautiful passes around the center of the field.
David Abagna had a wonderful opportunity to put AshantiGold in the lead but he was denied by Richard Attah who produced a superb save in the early minutes of the game.
The away side looked comfortable on the ball and controlled the tempo of the game.
Roland Amouzou should have put the Elephants in-front in the 18th minute but his shot in the penalty box skewed narrowly wide.
Hearts were awakened by the wasted chances of the away side and begun to impose control on the game.
A mix up in AshantiGold defence gifted Hearts striker Kwadwo Obeng Junior an opportunity and he did the needful by giving Hearts the lead on the 32nd minute mark.
Hearts were in cruise control of the game and should have doubled their lead on two occasions but Patrick Razak and Obeng Junior wasted the chances.
The first half ended with Hearts maintaining their 1-0 lead.
AshantiGold started the second half on the front as they did in the first.
Hans Kwofie pulled parity for the away side in the 57th minute after Yaw Annor beautifully teed him up after he run past the “sleeping” Hearts defence.
Hearts were on the back foot as they soaked the pressure from the AshantiGold attack which looked very dangerous.
Appiah McCarthy nearly stunned Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah from 30 yards but the highly experienced goalkeeper was equal to the task having delivered a superb save.
Obeng Junior put Hearts in the 80th minute when he headed home from close range after a delightful cross from Patrick Razak.
Hans Kwofie scored in added time to secure a point for the away side as he headed home past Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah.
