MOYS starts fumigation and disinfection of stadia ahead of GPL

Accra, Nov. 3, GNA – Tebel Ghana limited, a Ghanaian company which specialises in disinfection and fumigation has been contracted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) through the National Sports Authority (NSA) to disinfect all the 14 approved league Centres ahead of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League (GPL).

The disinfection which began on Tuesday, November 3 at the Accra Sports Stadium would be completed on Friday, November 6.

As part of the exercise, Covid 19 related items would be distributed to all the league Centres in a bid to adhering to the safety protocols set out by the government to prevent the virus.

The items included Veronica buckets, Tissues, Antiseptic liquid soaps, sanitizers, sanitiser dispensers, and thermometer guns.

Mr. Frank Quist Chief Director of the MOYS received the donated items from Tebel Ghana Limited and handed it to the NSA who is the custodian of sporting facilities in the country.

He said the disinfection and fumigation of the stadia were in-line with the President’s directives to prevent the spread of the global pandemic.

Mr. Quist hinted that Premier league Centres for the Women’s and Division One clubs would also be disinfected by Vector Pores, a subsidiary of Zoomlion before the start of their respective leagues.

Professor Peter Twumasi Director-General of the NSA was thankful to the government for lifting the ban on contact sports after eight months.

He said “sports has been idle for the past eight months and this is a big relief to the media. I am happy the government listened to us to resume sports in the country. The disinfection is to ensure Covid-19 is defeated in the country.”

He assured Ghanaians that the safety protocols would be put to use saying “we have the tools to work and we would produce a conducive environment for fans and all at the various stadia. Sports would be organized safely for all.”

The PRO of Tebel Ghana limited, Edem Makumator advised all to adhere to the safety protocols to curb Covid-19.

Mr. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang Board Chairman of the NSA, said the items would be used judiciously adding that, without nose masks, there would be no entry into the stadia in order to have a virus-free football season.
