Oti region to get multi-purpose sports stadium

Dambai (O/R), Oct 23, GNA-President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has cut the sod for the construction of a modern multi-purpose sports stadium in the newly created Oti region.

The stadium, when completed would enhance sporting activities in the region and unearth talents of many people especially the youth.

President Akufo-Addo who performed the ceremony as part of his two-day tour of the Oti region, noted that there was the need for everybody to undertake a sporting activity based on health grounds adding that “all work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy.”

Mr Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Minister of Youth and Sports said the transformation the Ministry had gone through under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo was admirable and enormous.

“The President has come to make sure anything that has been torn, removed and worn out is replaced, renovated and added more to them.”

He said most sports facilities were in deplorable states when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took over office in 2017 including; the Accra Sports Stadium, which was under lock and key.

“As I speak, the Accra Sports Stadium is back to life and we also renovated the Kumasi Sports Stadium.”

Mr Asiamah noted that the government had constructed 10 of such stadia in all the then regions and it was now the turn of the newly created regions to have their share.

He said after the completion of the stadium, football teams nationwide would patronise for some of their football matches and added that “the project will not only unearth talents, but will be a legacy project that you will forever remember.”

Nana Mprah Besemuna III, President of Oti Regional House of Chiefs and President of Krachi Traditional Council, said the region acknowledged all development projects and efforts of the President to develop the region.
