Political parties must not intimidate opponents, TTC

Tema, Aug 14, GNA – Political parties and independent candidates contesting within the Tema Traditional Area have been cautioned against intimidating their opponents as Ghana prepares for the December 2020 elections.

Nii Armah Sompunu II, Tema Shipi speaking for the Tema Traditional Council (TTC), said the Council would not entertain activities of intimidations and use of vigilante groups in the area as a measure to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections.

Nii Shipi gave the caution when Mr Mohammed Iliasu, an independent parliamentary candidate hopeful for Tema East, paid a courtesy call on the Council and donated some items towards the celebration of this year’s Homowo.

He advised against the use of the youth especially bodybuilders to cause mayhem and threaten the peace of the area as an election was about ideas and not conflicts.

Mr Iliasu, thanked the Council and promised to abide by the advice, saying he intended to prosecute a clean campaign, indicating that he came into the race following several calls on him by the youth who believed he was the right person to champion their issues.

He added that with that in mind, he had fashioned his campaign towards job creation and youth development through entrepreneurship programmes and initiatives.

The 38 years old ex-footballer, now a farmer, signed the book of condolence in memory of the late Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse and presented 20 boxes of bottled water, 20 cartons of none alcoholic beverages, and a bull.
