Rotary Clubs in Accra donate to Agbogbloshie traders

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA – The Rotary Clubs of Accra Ring Road Central, Legon East, Osu Oxford Street, and Industrial Area in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) have donated 2,000 nose masks to traders at the Agbogbloshie market.

The traders were also educated on COVID-19 safety protocols such as the right way to wear nose masks and to observe social distancing in the market.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Ms Roma Puni, Club President of Rotary Club Ring Road Central, said the donation was part of the clubs’ support to fighting the spread of the pandemic in the country.

She said Rotary Clubs across the country would support other market centres.

“Since the pandemic began, the Rotary Clubs in Accra have been embarking on donations of protective wears, where we don’t only do donations but we also educate the beneficiaries,” she said.

She said the donation and education were specifically done at the market, because the virus spread faster at crowded places, adding that, it was important persons who worked and lived in such a place observed safety protocols.

Ms Kathleen Addy, the NCCE Deputy Chairperson, said the wearing of nose masks and social distancing were obligatory for all citizens to curb the spread of the virus.

She said the NCCE was doing its best to educate the citizenry across the country on the need to observe the safety protocols, calling on all other well-meaning organisations to join in the fight against the virus.

She said the commission was recently given logistics by the government and other public and private organisations to enhance education.
