Sawaba (Ash), Aug. 03, GNA – Sheikh Bun Bida, an Islamic Scholar, has advised Ghanaians to embrace peaceful co-existence to ensure unity in the country.
He said the country’s progress hinged on tolerance, respect for divergent views and discipline on the part of the citizenry.
“We must live to appreciate the diversities in our society,” he said.
Sheikh Bun Bida, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on the sidelines of the launch of the ‘Al-Adahi’ Project, at Sawaba near Kumasi, said any country seeking to create a stable environment for
prosperity ought to cherish unity in diversity.
The Project, a brainchild of the Emirates Red Crescent, is being implemented locally by the Ansar Al-Khairiya Organization, a humanitarian non-governmental organisation, committed to promoting the welfare of the underprivileged.
The organisation had over the years given educational, health and counselling support services to the needy and poor in the Asokore-Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Sheikh Bun Bida said the Organization was committed to the empowerment of the youth, which was critical to increasing economic productivity.
He was grateful to the Emirates Red Crescent for assisting the Organization to buy about 80 sheep for distribution to poor households in the recent celebration of the ‘Eid-al-Adha’ (Sacrifice of the
Prophet Ibrahim).
Sheikh Illiasu Nurul-Haq Moro, Deputy Director of the Ansar Al-Khairiya Organization, advised the well-to-do in the society to contribute towards the welfare of the poor.
They should cultivate the culture of sharing, because “we are each
other’s keeper.”
