Parts of Ada West District submerged in flood

Sege (GAR) July 05, GNA – Parts of Ada West District got heavily flooded after seven hours of torrential rain, leaving several residents stranded and many properties destroyed.

The rain which started in the early hours of Saturday and subsided in the late afternoon, affected communities including Sege, Toflokpo, Salom, Koluedor and Madagbeh.

The floods submerged roads linking communities as it swept away livestock and other valuables.

The locals had to either vacate their homes to seek refuge with neighbours or race to higher grounds as the flood water rose to perilous heights with swift undercurrent.

Mr. James Tsiani Gadugah, Assembly member for Toflokpo–Salom electoral area, who blamed the situation on lack of storm drains, told the Ghana News Agency that project designers must engage community members when working on roads in the area.

“Whenever contractors are working on the roads and we try showing them where bridges must be, they snub us thinking their book knowledge is the best. This has been caused by lack of enough bridges at some vantage portions of the road, “he lamented.

Some of the residents said the flood nearly carried them away when they waded through it to seek refuge at safer places.

“If this should happen for a second or third time, some of our communities will be washed away, “Evans, a farmer, said.

Portions of Tema Aflao Road also got flooded but the users managed to use it.
