Battor (V/R), July 1, GNA – The North Tongu Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has stepped-up its COVID-19 sensitisation activities with street broadcast at major towns in the District.
The towns include Juapong, Battor, Mepe and Aveyime.
The exercise started at the beginning of June, 2020, creating awareness on how to observe the COVID-19 protocols and guard against stigmatisation.
Mr Daniel Glikpo, North Tongu District Director of NCCE, told the Ghana News Agency that his team decided to direct education on the pandemic to the rural areas because everybody was at risk.
“The covid-19 pandemic has put everyone at risk and we at North Tongu NCCE have decided to step up our game by making everyone in the District realise the need to adhere to the safety protocols no matter where they stay,” he said.
He touched on the mode of transmission of the disease, which he said included contact with an infected person, touching of the eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands, shaking hands with an infected person, and being at crowded areas.
Mr Glikpo advised the public to adhere to the safety protocols such as personal hygiene, use of hand sanitisers, and avoid crowded areas to help contain the disease.
He said the North Tongu District Assembly also supported the sensitisation with 200 pieces of face masks, which were distributed to the various communities including Torgorme, Fodzoku, Tsikpoe, Kpordoe, Kpornkpo, Agorxo, and Tsikudokope.
He said the community members were happy about the activity as it was an eye opener on the effects of COVID-19.
The sensitisation would continue in July and last through August.
