Accra, June 30, GNA – Purim African Youth Development Platform (PAYDP), a non-governmental organization, has called on stakeholders to include Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) education in vocational training for the youth to make informed decisions in their sex lives.
Ms Edna Yeboah, PAYDP Greater Accra Programmes Coordinator, made the call at an advocacy meeting with heads of National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI), the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), National Youth Authority (NYA), Seamstresses, Hairdressers and other relevant bodies.
The meeting, with support from the UNFPA, sought to enlighten the stakeholders on sexual and reproductive health and accelerate action to end child marriage.
Ms Yeboah said “just as formal education has Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) in the curriculum these groups must also include it in their apprenticeship training programmes at all levels”.
She said the reproductive system was one of the most fragile in the human, which needed to be nurtured and protected throughout ones lives.
Ms Yeboah said this, when taken into consideration, would ensure that people irrespective of their educational background have access to SRH education to enable the country achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 3.
The stakeholders during the meeting admitted that they do not have SRH education included in their training programmes and called for the assistance of PAYDP to be able to educate their apprentice.
