Jirapa, (UW/R), June 22, GNA – The St. Francis Old Girls Association (FOGA) has donated handwashing facilities and Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) worth about GH¢7,000.00 to its alma-mata, the St. Francis Assisi Girls’ Senior High School in Jirapa.
The items included 20 handwashing stations, 40 gallons (4.5 litres) of liquid soap, 30 gallons (4.5 litres) of disinfectant and 750 pieces of face mask.
Madam Vivian Kunko, the Upper West Regional President of FOGA handed over the items on behalf of the national president of the association at a brief ceremony at Jirapa.
She said the donation was to help protect the students and staff from the COVID-19 as schools resume for final year students on June 22, 2020.
The president, Nana Akuffo-Addo had announced that final year SHS students should report to school on 22nd June 2020 to prepare for their West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Madam Kunko said though the association was aware that the government would provide the needed protection for the students, the old students deemed it necessary to contribute their quota to support their alma-mata in fighting the deadly virus.
“We are aware that government will support the school, but we deem it necessary to also contribute our widow’s mite to support the school”, she said.
The 1985-year group of the school also donated 50 gallons (4.5 litres) of liquid soap to the school to help in the fight against the virus.
Madam Florence Ansomwine, a representative of the group who handed over the items, pledged the continued support of the old students to uplift the school.
That, she said, would help ensure that the school produced responsible citizens who would contribute significantly to the development of the nation.
Reverend Sister Martha Kello, the Headmistress of the school commended the old students for the kind gesture and promised to use the items judiciously.
She said the school authorities, through the support of the old students and government, would work to ensure no student fell victim of the deadly virus.
