Barbara Asher Ayisi wins Cape Coast North bid

Cape Coast, June 20, GNA – Mrs Barbara Asher Ayisi, the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and sitting Member of Parliament(MP) for Cape Coast North has retained her bid to represent the New Patriotic Party(NPP) in the December election.

Mrs Ayisi, who was a former tutor at the Wesley Girls Senior High School, polled 199 votes out of a total of 438 in all the 15 polling centres to lead the Party in the December General election for the second time.

Her closest contender, Mr Lawrence Ampah, garnered 150 votes, Mr Joseph Thomas Baidoo, 63, and Philip Longdon, 63 votes with two spoilt ballots.

Mr Richard Asenso, an official of the Electoral Commission who declared the results described the election as peaceful, free, and fair.

None of the parliamentary aspirants was present at the coalition centre but ably represented by their agents who appended their signatures to the certified results without protest.

Immediately after the declaration, scores of sympathizers of Mrs Ayisi jumped into a spontaneous celebration to express their felicitations for her victory.

However, the security agencies were equal to the task to maintain law and order.

Mr Ayisi will be contesting Mr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the December poll.
