Cape Coast, June 17, GNA – Operation Smile, an international Medical charitable organization has donated four Acutor-plus patient monitors and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH).
The PPE donated included; 10 safety goggles, 20 surgical gowns, 24 surgical face masks, 119 face shields, 80 N95 and 17 examination gloves. The patient monitors and the PPE collectively cost GH¢21, 935.
Dr Opoku Ware Amponsah, Country Medical Director of Operation Smile who presented the items said the donation formed part of its COVID-19 response programme to support efforts in fighting the pandemic.
“The government is doing its part but as we all know the figures keep increasing, so we all have to contribute our quota and ensure that we win the fight against this pandemic”, he said.
According to Dr Amponsah, who is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon, the timely distribution of PPE was critical in the period of COVID-19, and expressed the hope that the items would help stop the spread of the disease.
He indicated that plans were advanced to present intensive care equipment to the CCTH to boost the treatment of critically ill patients and to improve healthcare delivery at the facility.
He said Operation Smile had donated medical equipment, supplies and provided free medical treatment for children and young adults with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities across the World.
Dr Amponsah advised the public to strictly observe the public health protocols to avoid contracting the virus.
Dr Eric Kofi Ngyedu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CCTH who received the items on behalf of the hospital expressed gratitude to Operation Smile for the kind gesture and called for more support from other organizations.
He said the hospital would continue to build on the long standing relationship that existed between it and Operation Smile to provide critical care to patients who visited the facility.
