Bia East District Assembly supports PWDs

Sefwi-Adabokrom (W/N) June 11, GNA – The Bia East District Assembly in the Western North Region has presented items and cash all valued at GH¢56,400.00 to 50 persons with disabilities (PWD’s) in the District.

In all, 22 received deep freezers, while one received a brand new laptop with the rest taking home cash as start -up and school fees.

Presenting the items, Mr Alex Djonoboah Tetteh, Member of Parliament for Sefwi-Akontombra, said the government was committed to empowering persons with disability to enable them become useful to themselves and the society in general.

He also advised them to make good use of the items and use the cash for the intended purpose.
Mr Tetteh appealed to those who were yet to receive such support from the government to remain calm as they would all be supported by the government soon.

Mr Edmond Appiah kubi, District Social Welfare officer, advised the public not to neglect such persons but help them to build their potentials.

He said the government would continue to assist PWDs financially and that it was the responsibility of all to give them the maximum support and respect.

Mr Assena Simon, President of Bia District persons with disabilities association, commended the government and the District Assembly for the support since many of the members no longer had to beg for arms on the streets.

He called on the public to desist from looking down on persons with disability since they also had a role to play in society.

Mr Assena appealed to government to increase their quota of the common fund to enable all persons with disability in the district to benefit.
