COVID-19: Zonta Club donates to Korle-Bu Mothers’ Hostel

Accra, June 11, GNA – The Zonta Club of Accra has, donated assorted items to the Mothers’ Hostel at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) to supplement the efforts of government and corporate entities in stemming the COVID-19 pandemic.

The items valued at GH¢ 5, 000.00 included; bags of local rice, cartons of cooking oil, boxes of face masks, gallons of handwashing soap, gallons of detergents, and packets of tissue and toilet roll.

Madam Elizabeth Akpaloo, the Chairperson of the Club, said the Club chose to support the Hostel because 30-years-ago, one of its past Presidents Madam Rachel Phillips mooted the idea of building a hostel for mothers who had nowhere to stay during the hospitalization of their babies and young children.

After the hostel was built, the Club helped in its subsequent refurbishment and provision of basic necessities.

The Club, therefore, has the welfare of the Hostel at heart, she said.

Mrs Florence Ohene-Kyei, the President of the Club said the donation was not only to stem the spread of COVID-19, but to cater for the hygiene management of the hostel.

Zonta is also providing the basic needs of mothers whose children were admitted at the hospital and had nowhere to stay.

She expressed optimism that the items would helped to put smiles on the faces of deprived mothers who needed basic support at the hostel.

Madam Esther Tetteh, the Administrator at the Child Health Department, KBTH, on behalf of the mothers and workers expressed gratitude to the Club for the constant support.

“We thank them for the support especially as it came at the right time. We are never tired of receiving support and we pray for God to bless them so that they will continuously have the Mothers’ hostel at heart and in mind,” she said.
