Melcom Care supports five health institutions

Accra, June 10, GNA – The Melcom Care Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Melcom Group of Companies on Wednesday donated 20,000 boxes of bar soap to five health institutions in Accra and Tema to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The beneficiaries included the 37 Military Hospital, Police Hospital, Tema General Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Mr Godwin Avenorgbo, Director of Communications, Melcom Group of Companies said the company donated the bar soap brands “Largo” and “Jamaa” because the health institutions themselves endorsed the soap brands for their high quality and efficacy in fighting germs.

He said the donation was just one of the many donations they had in stock for health institutions and that, more would follow soon.

The Communication Director said in the wake of the COVID-19 in Ghana, Melcom had supported the country’s efforts to ensure safety and protection of citizens as well as, total adherence to all health protocols laid down by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health.
He said Mr Bhagwan Khubchandani, Group Chairman for Melcom Group of Companies had promised to endorse similar donations if the items were used up within eight weeks of receiving them.

As such, Mr Avenorgbo advised that the items should not be hoarded but rather used to meet the intended propose for the donation.

He said as part of the Company’s health education programmes and support for hygiene in various schools, the Group Chairman had again approved for an extension of the “Schools Washroom Project” to other parts of the country.

The new areas to receive support in their schools would include Madina and Ashiaman in the Greater Accra Region; Mankessim in the Central Region; Ho in the Volta Region; Kumasi in the Ashanti Region; Wa in the Upper West Region; Techiman in the Bono East Region; Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region; and Tamale in the Northern Region.

“We have already handed over some of the facilities to schools in Nsawam in the Eastern Region; Akatsi, Tefle, Sokpe in the Volta Region; Accra, Kaneshie, and Kotobabi in the Greater Accra Region,” he said.

Chief Superintendent, Juliana Agyeiwaa Darteh, speaking on behalf of the Police Hospital said the items would help them observe personal hygiene amongst both health workers and patients, and asked that more of such donations would follow.

Mr Francis Ackah from the Tema General Hospital said the donation was timely and promised that they would use them for the intended purpose.

He called on other cooperate bodies to emulate the kind gesture from Melcom and extend a helping hand to health institutions.
