Church members defy downpour to attend service

Fiapre (B/R), June 08, GNA – The worshippers of the Living Grace Ministries International (LGMI) on Sunday defied early morning downpour to attend service, following government’s easing of restrictions against spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The church held two services, each lasting exactly an hour with a very encouraging attendance and significantly the necessary COVID-19 preventive directives, protocols and other health and safety measures were all observed.

Each of the congregants was registered and issued with a seat number before entry into the church premise to facilitate easy and speedy contact tracing in case of a COVID-19 infection detection among them.

The government in mid-March this year placed a ban on public gatherings which included; church services and attendance to mosque as part of measures and restrictions against the COVID-19 pandemic spread.

Consequently, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo addressing the nation last Sunday night for the tenth time about the COVID-19 situation announced the lessening of the restrictions to allow for gradual return of public gatherings and activities to normalcy.
Hence, church services effectively could be held but not more than 100 people could attend at a time.

Welcoming the congregation at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality of Bono Region, the headquarters of the LGMI, Bishop Dr. Richard Owusu-Akyeaw, the Founder and General Overseer admonished them to observe and abide by directives, as well as complying with all protocols and precautionary measures to protect themselves from contracting the deadly COVID-19.

Later in a sermon on the theme “The Power of Life”, Bishop Dr Owusu-Akyeaw urged the public “to always appreciate life and seek for it rather than seeking for material things”.

He stated the disease brought man closer to God because man had come to the realisation that all efforts to halt the spread of the virus by health experts and scientists had failed and were now looking up to God for his miraculous intervention.
