Accra, April 16, GNA – The Ministry of Health (MOH) and its partners, would launch two new vaccines Pneumococcal and Rotavirus as part of activities to mark the African Vaccination Week celebration on Thursday, April 26.
A statement signed by Dr Frank Nyonator, Acting Director General of Ghana Health Service and copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the introduction of the vaccines would be included in Ghana’s routine immunisation scheduled for May.
A pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, a vaccine against Streptococcus pneumoniae, is ideal for all children aged two–23 months and for at-risk children aged 24–59 months.
A rotavirus vaccine protects children from rotaviruses, which are the leading causes of severe diarrhoea among infants and young children.
Although these vaccines had been introduced in South Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America, Ghana is yet to introduce it in her health system.
Dr Ernestina Naadu Mills, First Lady would launch the vaccines.
