GNECC commends government for re-opening schools to final year students

Takoradi, May 04, GNA – The Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for adhering to the recommendations made by stakeholders to let the final year students go back to school.

The Coalition also commended the President adding the Gold Track students who missed on their learning and now have the opportunity to go and complete that phase of their academic calendar.

Mr. Joseph Atsu Homadzi, Interim Chairman of GNECC who made the remarks in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said the schools should be made to maximize the use of available spaces such as school’s Assembly Halls and Laboratories to enable the effective adherence to the social distancing protocols.

According to him, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Ministry of Health should be assigned a nurse to each school to ensure the consistent monitoring of cases in the schools.

He urged the Ministry of Education to continue with the E-learning programme for students who were still at home and called on parents to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols for the safety of children at home.

Mr. Homadzi further added that online teaching and learning Programme s should also be made available in the schools, thus, E-learning content should be screened in the schools.

He, therefore, pledged the continuous support of GNECC to the efforts of the government to provide quality education for every child in these challenging times towards the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goal 4 target.
