Effia (WR) May 27, GNA – Residents of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality in the Western Region have been urged to observe the various COVID-19 safety and preventive protocols to mitigate its spread in the Municipality.
The Municipal Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Moses Kojo Baffoe, who made the call during a public sensitization programme on COVID-19 pandemic organized by the Commission in Effia-Kwesimintsim, said the disease had come to stay and people must take precautionary measures to live with it.
The programme took officials of the Commission to shopping malls, market centres including; the Effia, Apreamdo, and Assakea markets and the Apreamdo bus terminal to educate the market women and drivers on the need to wear nose and face masks and ensure physical and social distancing.
Mr Baffoe told them that COVID-19 pandemic was real and had come to stay and that everyone was at risk and must therefore take the preventive protocols which included; wearing of nose masks, observing social distancing and washing hands with soap under running water to curb the spread of the virus in the Municipality.
The NCCE Municipal Director, told them that the wearing of nose masks should be part of their daily dressing and they should endeavour to wear them especially when they were moving out of their homes.
Mr Baffoe cautioned them against the stigmatization of COVID-19 patients and that they should rather show them love, care and kindness, since everyone was at risk and could be infected with the virus.
He said market women and traders played an important role in the economic development of the country and it was therefore imperative to educate them on the effects of the deadly disease and how they can collectively help stem its spread.
Mr Baffoe said it was the mandate of the Commission to educate the public on COVID-19 pandemic and called on the public to give the Commission the support and cooperation to enable it successfully execute its mandate.
