Akuapem-Apirede, May 25, GNA- Mr Dan Botwe, Member of Parliament for Okere in the Eastern Region, has urged the public to take the precautionary measures against the spread of the novel coronavirus serious.
He said the disease was real and nobody should doubt its existence but to observe the measures strictly for their own safety.
Mr Botwe was educating traders at markets, lorry stations and roadside shop owners in his Constituency after distributing facemasks and hand sanitizers to them.
He explained that everyone was at risk of the disease and so it was important for traders, drivers and others in the public space to wear the face masks religiously as well as continue with the handwashing protocols.
He personally distributed about 14,000 nose masks and alcohol based hand sanitizers to market women, drivers and road sellers at the various towns in the Constituency.
At the Asenema market, the largest market in the area, the MP donated commercial umbrellas to help protect the traders who were at the mercy of the weather, after relocating to a park to be able to observe the social distancing protocol.
Mr Daniel Kenneth, Okere District Chief Executive on his part, indicated that from Tuesday, the covid-19 task force would sanction anyone without the face masks.
He said the MP in collaboration with the Assembly had supplied every trader, driver, shop owner in the area with two face masks each, and there was no excuse for the traders and drivers not to observe that protocol.
