Walewale (NE/R), May 21, GNA – Regional Advisory Information and Network Systems (RAINS), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has supported three communities in the West Mamprusi Municipality of the North East Region with hand washing facilities to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in these areas.
The items, distributed to various groups and institutions within the communities, were to promote hygienic lifestyles among residents, as part of efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.
The items, which included; Veronica Buckets with supporting metal stands and gallons of liquid soap, were given to Chief Palaces, and other identifiable groups located at vantage points.
The beneficiary communities included; Loagri, Kukua and Shelinvoya.
Mr Mustapha Tijani, Project Officer at RAINS, who presented the items, said the donations formed part of his organisation’s social responsibility role, and indicated that, it was important to reiterate the call for citizens to contribute to stop the spread of the virus in these rural areas.
He said “rural folks need to be given ample education and support on the pandemic to collectively win the fight”.
“That is why we have come here today to give them the items and also educate them on proper hand washing methods and other preventive etiquette”, he added.
He implored the beneficiaries to abide by the preventive measures issued by the Ghana Health Services (GHS), World Health Organization (WHO) and other health experts, adding that it would help to prevent the spread and infection of the virus in their communities.
Chiefs and residents of the beneficiary communities expressed gratitude to RAINS for the gesture and pledged to put the items into good use.
They appealed to other organisations to emulate the kind gesture of RAINS by supporting them with more hand washing facilities to enable them to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the areas.
