Sunyani, May 21, GNA – Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has commended the officers and men of the security services within the Municipality for their unflinching support to the Assembly in fighting the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
She said the nucleus of the Sunyani COVID-19 Taskforce was the security services personnel because they consisted of more than 90 per cent of the total membership and their level of selflessness and commitment towards the task of ensuring compliance with the protocols, directives and restrictions against spread of the disease in the Municipality and beyond is immeasurable.
Mad. Owusu-Banahene gave the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Thursday in Sunyani, citing that the Taskforce did not restrict its operations to the prevention of COVID-19 outbreak and spread in the Municipality, but all other programmes relating to the health and safety of the people.
But for the effective participation of the security services personnel, the Assembly’s general cleaning exercise, particularly in the central business district (CBD) of Sunyani on Saturday would not have attained the level of expected success, she stressed.
The MCE lauded the Taskforce led by Superintendent Haruna Alhassan of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), saying it had become a link between the Assembly and the security Services’ Commands for their complete support in the affairs of residents in the Municipality.
Mad. Owusu-Banahene said the clean-up exercise was part of the Assembly’s effort in fighting the COVID-19 in the Municipality.
Besides the personnel of the Immigration, Police, Prisons and Fire Services and the Army and Customs Excise and Preventive Service of the Ghana Revenue Authority, staff of other corporate organisations and some of the traders in the CBD participated to desilt choked gutters and cleared filthy areas in the ‘city’, she added.
She said the exercise was also a preparation towards controlling flooding in the CBD during the rainy season and therefore urged residents and Ghanaians in general to adhere to all the precautionary measures against the COVID-19 to stay safe and healthy as the best and effective protection was basically dependent on the individual.
Otherwise, all the efforts of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his appointees, traditional authorities and contributions in cash and kind of other stakeholders to stop the COVID-19 would be in vain.
