Covid-19: Rotary Club supports the fight

Kumasi, May 21, GNA – The Rotary Club has pledged to contribute to efforts aimed at containing the further spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

Mr. Francis Tettey Ahwah, President of Rotary Club of Kumasi East, said since the outbreak of the pandemic, Rotary International had done much across the globe to combat the spread.

The Rotary Club in Ghana had also donated relief items worth GHȼ120,000.00 to some health facilities in the country.

Mr. Ahwah, who was speaking to newsmen in Kumasi after donating some items to the Kumasi South Hospital, said the Club would intensify such gestures to bring relief to caregivers as well as covid-19 patients.

The items included boxes of latex gloves, hand sanitizers, packs of tissue papers, boxes of surgical face masks, as well as boxes of hand sanitizers and liquid soaps.

Rotary Club is a global network of about 1.2 million members that promote peace, fight diseases, provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene.

Mr. Ahwah said the Club was going to intensify awareness creation to prevent further spread of the virus.

Dr. Angela Durowaa Frempong, Clinical Care Coordinator of the Hospital, who received the items, expressed appreciation to the Club for coming to the aid of the facility at such a critical period.

She said since the country recorded its first case count in March 2020, the hospital which served as the major treatment center in Ashanti Region, has admitted 30 covid-19 positive patients, out of these, 18 have been treated and discharged.

Dr. Frempong who is also theCOVID-19 Case Management Coordinator said the main challenges at the facility continued to be limited space, security and inadequate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
