Accra, May 12, GNA – The Rebecca Foundation has donated some pieces of locally manufactured face masks and sanitizers to some market women at Okaishie, Makola, Kantamanto, Agbogbolshie and Mallam markets to combat COVID-19.
The gesture was part of the Foundation’s Mother’s Day activities to honour and celebrate the contribution of Ghanaian mothers.
Mrs. Perpetual Asante Amoah, an Officer at the Rebecca Foundation who donated the items on behalf of First Lady Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, described mothers in the market as relentless women who combine work with caregiving as well as ensuring safety at home in “this COVID-19 era”.
She said such women deserved to be celebrated all the time, and more importantly, on such occasions.
While she shared the face masks and sanitizers to the market women, she also educated them to wash their hands often with soap and under running water.
Mrs Asante Amoah then urged the market women to do well to observe the social distancing protocols at the market places, wear their face masks and also observe all other approved precautionary measures to protect themselves against the virus.
“I again entreat everyone to observe the various protocols as we all come together to fight COVID-19”, she stated.
Since the outbreak of the Coronavirus in the country in March this year, the Rebecca Foundation had fed street children with cooked food and also provided food and sanitary items to the elderly, single mothers, widows, people living with HIV, and persons with disabilities in Accra and Kumasi.
