Operation Feed Yourself donates to Muslim communities

Accra, May 12, GNA – Chief Is-hak Sulleman Naaba Sigrie I, General Secretary of the National Council of Zongo Chiefs, has called on Ghanaians to collaborate and help the government fight the coronavirus pandemic destroying many lives.

He said the current situation called for unity and mobilization of resources and ideas to ensure Ghana’s safety from the novel virus that was destabilizing businesses globally.

Chief Sigrie made the call when Operation Feed Yourself Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) donated food items including; maize, gari, beans and fruits to Muslim communities in Accra.

The communities were; Ashiyie, Adenta, Madina, Nima, Kotobabi, Accra Newtown, Achimota, Osu, Nungua, Mamobi and Kasoa.

Chief Sigrie advised the public to observe all safety protocols, including; proper and regular hand washing, social distancing and staying at home, to help prevent the spread of the virus.

He thanked the NGO for their kind gesture and expressed the hope that Muslims would continue to remain strong during the period of COVID-19 and fasting.

Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO said it donated the items to support the Muslims and the vulnerable in the trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the donation was also in memory of the late Mr Jamils Brookins, a Business Partner who passed two years ago.

Mr Osei Bonsu eulogized the late Mr Brookins for his contributions towards the NGO and appealed to the government to intensify education on the protocols to help curb the spread of the disease.

Mr Osei Bonsu also appealed to chiefs to release more lands for farming to ensure food security.

Mr Rafiq Brookins, son of the late Mr Brookins, who sponsored the donation, called on Ghanaians to show love to one another during the COVID-19 pandemic.
