Suame (Ash), May 08, GNA – The Suame Municipal Assembly is working closely with the Member of Parliament, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to improve access roads and security at the Suame Magazine enclave.
Being the largest metal fabrication and auto-mechanic enclave in the West African Sub-region, the magazine faces challenges such as poor access roads, inadequate lightening system, lack of potable water and healthcare facilities.
The enclave, in the course of the recent partial lockdown, recorded series of thefts of automobile parts by miscreants who took advantage of the darkness to commit those crimes.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, told the Ghana News Agency after a meeting with leaders of the Magazine that he was working with the Municipal Assembly to improve the security of the area.
“We are working to provide a total of 400 street bulbs to be fixed at strategic locations of the enclave in order to ward off criminals, especially in the night,” he said.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who was on a working tour of the area, said the enclave had lots of economic potentials and that the Government would always ensure the safety and security of the artisans to enhance their activities.
Present at the meeting were Nana Agyin Frimpong, the Chief of Tafo, Dr John Osei Bobie Boahin, the Municipal Chief Executive, as well as Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, the Minister of Roads and Highways, to assess the road situation there.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the Government was through with the processes for the rehabilitating works and that about 10 kilometre stretch of road would be put into shape within the next one year.
Additionally, a municipal hospital was to be constructed at Suame to boost healthcare delivery.
Nana Agyin Frimpong, the Chief of Tafo, appealed to the Government to put in the necessary investment to help transform the enclave into a state-of-the-art automobile manufacturing hub.
That, he said, was critical to generating employment and wealth for the people.
Nana Osei Bonsu, the Ashanti Regional President of the Garages Association, advised the members to adhere to all health guidelines and protocols to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19.
