Sunyani MCE commends traders for compliance with market closure

Sunyani, May 07, GNA – Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has commended traders in the city for complying with the Municipal Assembly’s closure of the weekly Wednesday market and other satellite markets in the Municipality.

Madam Owusu-Banahene gave the commendation in an interview with Ghana News Agency after she toured the central and some satellite markets.

The Sunyani Municipal Security Council (MUSEC)/Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Taskforce working in collaboration with the Sunyani Traditional Council and the leadership of the central and satellite markets issued a press statement to that effect few days earlier.

This was because the Presidential directives and other measures by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service such as the observation of social and physical distancing protocols, washing of hands with soap under running water and rubbing the hands with alcohol-based sanitizers to stop the outbreak and spread of the COVID-19 were not being adhered to as expected.

There were basically no trading activity as stores and stalls had been closed with empty tables at open places when the Ghana News Agency visited the markets.

There was, however, some security presence ostensibly to ensure adherence to the order.

In a related development, the Assembly seized opportunity of the absence of the traders and buyers to engage Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste management company, to disinfect inside and outside the markets with chlorine.
