Global generosity to support less privileged under COVID-19 launched

Sunyani (B/R), May 7, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Marfo, the Country Lead of Giving Tuesday – Ghana, an international philanthropic organisation has called on individuals, organizations and interested partners to join the Giving Tuesday- Ghana Movement to support venerable people in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Giving Tuesday– Ghana, is a global generous movement that promote giving to transform communities and the entire world.

It was established in 2012 as a simple idea to encourage people to do good.

Mr Marfo made the call during the launch of ‘Giving Tuesday Now campaign’ on Facebook.

He explained that, the global movement offers opportunities to people to give back to communities and the vulnerable in safe ways that allowed social connection, while the world practices social distancing.

“We all have gifts to give and with social media, online giving, delivery, mail and phones, there are limitless ways to use our generosity to support others, heal and save during and after the pandemic,” Mr Marfo said.

Mrs Asha Curran, Chief Executive Officer of Giving Tuesday, said everyone had the opportunity to impact positively on others no matter the level of income, to ensure the sustainability of organisations and services that were essential to the care and support of communities.

“Giving Tuesday Now campaign is a chance for us to stand united and use grassroots generosity to show that we are all in this pandemic together, and as many face financial challenges, this is the time to offer support, generosity is not about size,” Mrs Asha added.

Miss Janat Issifu, Hub Manager, Grass Root Hub, which is a Social Impact Incubator that supports social entrepreneurs and philanthropic organisations to achieve social good, said “We all have something to give and every act of human consideration and kindness matters”.

The virtual launching event ended with a ‘Giving Challenge’, which was expected to collaborate with the media, foundation partners and the rest to donate to a fund to support communities.
