Cape Cost, April 25, GNA – The Abura branch of the International Central Gospel Church (Exalted Temple) in Cape Coast has launched a charity outreach programme to provide food items and toiletries to the aged and needy within the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The initiative, according to Rev. Jepson Ahene, Head Pastor of the church, was in response to unforeseen hardships some people may be experiencing due to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The project, which kicked-started at Kakumdo, a suburb of Cape Coast, saw beneficiaries receiving food items ranging from bags of rice, oil, milk, tinned tomatoes, tinned fish to soaps and bags of sachet water.
Rev. Ahene was supported by the Church’s Council members and the Logistics Committee as they made the distribution in collaboration with the Assembly Member for the area.
Rev Ahene said the initiative hinged on a verse from the Bible in James 1:27 which stated that “pure and undefined religion before God is to visit orphans and widows in their troubles” and indicated that the project would stretch even after the coronavirus.
He said it was the responsibility of the Church to reach out to and support the deprived in the Society.
Rev. Ahene indicated that although everybody had been hit by the effects of the pandemic in diverse ways, it was the neglected, aged and poor in society who would bear the brunt.
For him, the coronavirus had come to re-inforce the need for all to pay attention to the aged, the poor and the vulnerable in the society and offer them the required assistance.
According to him there was more blessing in giving than receiving.
Already some members of the church had been given similar packages and it was now reaching the larger society to alleviate the suffering of the needy in the difficult period of COVID-19.
