Kumasi, April 22, GNA – The Lebanese Community in the Ashanti Region has donated assorted food items to the frontline staff of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for their upkeep.
The items packed in 100 boxes contained canned fish, rice, cooking oil, variety of fruit juice and energy drinks, spaghetti and bottled water.
Mr Haidab Hany, Spokesperson for the Lebanese Community, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after the presentation in Kumasi, that the gesture was aimed at motivating the frontline workers as they fight the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic in the region.
He said over four hundred (400) boxes of similar items have already been distributed by the Community freely to the poor and needy in Ahodwo, Sokoban, Oforikrom, Adiebeba and Ampeyoo, all in the Ashanti region.
Additionally, the security agencies on duty during the partial lockdown of Greater Kumasi were also provided with some of the food items in line with the corporate social responsibility of the Lebanese Community.
Mr Hany advised the public to adhere to the social distancing protocol and also wear protective masks regularly in order to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.
Ms Georgina Afua Sam, Director of Nursing Services, KATH, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, thanked the Lebanese Community for their kindness.
He asked corporate institutions not to relent in their support for the facility, especially in the provision of personal protective equipment (PPEs) since such items were critical in healthcare delivery.
