Ghana’s COVID-19 confirmed cases up to 834

Accra, April 18, GNA-Since the last update, Ghana has confirmed an additional 193 COVID-19 cases bringing the total to 834.

A statement on the Ghana Health Service COVID-19 website said the rise occurred after completing the testing of the first batch of some 57,000 samples as of April 15.

It said the new cases did not represent new infections that were occurring but it represented results from tests of a backlog of samples.

The statement said confirmed cases in Greater Accra were 685, Ashanti 59, Eastern 51, Northern 11, Volta 09, Upper East 08, Upper West 08, Central 01, Western 01, and North East 01.

The statement said the various laboratories had been working day and night to test a large number of samples and expressed the hope that it would be completed in the next few days.

It said the total samples tested so far now stood at 60,916 with 1.37 percent testing positive.

The statement said the results of these backlogs of samples when released do not mean the number of new cases recorded on the day of the report.
