Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Assembly suspends weekly markets indefinitely

Bibiani (W/N), April 17, GNA – The Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) upon advice of the Municipal Health Directorate for the Bibiani- Anhwiaso-Bekwai Assembly has suspended all markets transacted on weekly basis across the Municipality to help control the spread of the COVID 19 pandemic.

The affected markets are Bibiani, Sefwi-Tanoso and Sefwi-Bekwai weekly market days which are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Alfred Amoah who led the delegation to the affected markets to effect the suspension, said it was important to close the weekly markets because people outside the Municipality patronised them without observing the necessary COVID- 19 protocols in the Municipality.

He said only the daily markets, which attract relatively low patronage as against the weekly markets would be allowed now, but with strict precautionary measures.

“Only traders who deal in foodstuffs and meat would be allowed to sell at the affected markets on normal days, but that second-hand clothing, shoes and cloth dealers would not be permitted to sell,” he said.

The Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Francis Takyi Solomon advised the people to adhere to the measures and directives such as social distancing, regular exercising, use of hand Sanitizers, and avoid overcrowding to stem contracting the virus.

He also advised commercial drivers in the Municipality to go by the directives for loading passengers.
