Walewale (NE/R), April 2, GNA – The Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organization (ADDRO) with funding from Comic Relief has donated some Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to the West Mamprusi Municipal Health Directorate as part of its efforts to combat the spread of Coronavirus.
The items included 10 ‘Veronica buckets’, 156 pieces of nose masks, 120 bottles of hand sanitizers and 7000 pieces of examination gloves.
A cash donation of GH¢ 5,000 was also donated to help augment the cost of awareness creation through radio and community sensitization.
Mr Emmanuel Tia Nabila, the Executive Director of ADDRO who presented the items in Walewale, said it was meant to help health facilities in the Municipality fight against the spread of the virus.
Mr Nabila urged the health professionals to ensure that the items were used properly to benefit the less privileged who could not afford some of those PPEs to protect themselves.
He said ADDRO would make similar donations to the Jirapa, Wa west, Binduri, Nabdam and Bunkprugu districts.
Mr Arimeyaw Somo Lucky Basintale, the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, received the items on behalf of the Health Directorate and thanked ADDRO for the help.
Mr Basintale said as part of measures to reduce community spread, the Member of Parliament for the area has also donated an amount of GH¢ 10,000 to purchase hand washing facilities for health facilities within the Municipality.
He said 10 market women had been selected and trained to aid in educating people within the informal sector.
Mr Mohammed Yakubu, the Municipal Director of Health said one suspected case has been recorded in the area and samples have been sent for testing.
He said the rapid response team organized a health screening exercise for over 400 people who returned from the southern sector in order to escape the partial lockdown.
