Nkoranza South, Achiase MPs laud government’s hospital projects

Accra, April 1, GNA – Mr Charles Konadu Yiadom, Member of Parliament (MP) for Nkoranza South, has applauded the Government for adding Nkoranza South to the recipient communities to benefit from one of government’s hospital projects.

He said the establishment of the proposed hospital would help improve health delivery in the catchment area and adjoining constituencies, such as Nkoranza North, Ejura Sekyedumase, Techiman North and South as well as Kintampo North and South.

“On behalf of the chiefs and people of Nkoranza, we express our sincere gratitude to the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and sector Minister for the project.
“The project will go a long way to help the people within that catchment area and those contiguous constituencies.”

Mr Yiadom said this when he contributed to a motion in Parliament to approve a loan facility totaling €139.339 million between the Government of Ghana and the Israel Discount Bank Limited for the construction of Tema, Nkoranza and Dormaa hospitals, the Central Medical Stores and ancillary facilities.
The credit facility is made up of a loan of amounting to €139.339 million and a Commercial facility of €21 million.

The objective of the project is to provide a health facility for both general and specialized medical services for outpatient and inpatient care, training of pre-service students, internship and postgraduate medical training for all categories of health professionals in all specialties and sub-specialties.

The scope of the project includes of the reconstruction of a 400-bed Regional Hospital at the Tema General Hospital and the redevelopment of the Central Medical Stores and ancillary facilities.

The rest of the projects are the construction of a new 100-bed hospital at Nkoranza and the construction of an Accident and Emergency Unit at Dormaa hospital.

The rationale for the loan is to facilitate the reconstruction and equipping of hospitals to address gaps in healthcare infrastructure.

With respect to the Tema General Hospital, most of the hospitals current structures and equipment are not sound and safe for use. Due to this, government is constructing an entirely new 400-bed hospital facility to replace the old one.

Under this project, the Central Medical Stores that was gutted by fire outbreak would be reconstructed into a full state-of–the-art pharmaceutical facility with auxiliary facilities.

Under the same project, a new 100-bed hospital would be constructed in Nkoranza. Additionally, an Accident and Emergency Unit would also be constructed at Dormaa.

The project is also in fulfilment of government’s commitment to provide healthcare infrastructure to all and ensure universal healthcare to all citizens in Ghana.

In a related development, Mr Robert Kwasi Amoah, MP for Achiase, has also lauded government’s effort to construct a 40-bed polyclinic in the area to improve access to healthcare.

He expressed gratitude to Government for finally acceding to his request which was made through parliamentary questions to have the health facility in the area renovated and upgraded to the status of a district hospital.

“I will be the most ungrateful being if I do not express my profound gratitude and that of the chiefs and people of Achiase to the Health Minister and to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for granting us such as facility, I am most grateful,” he added

He said he was particularly happy because the project is coming at the time when he is the MP for the area.
