Accra, March 27, GNA – The Management of the Accra Technical University (ATU) joined the global and national efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 with a donation of sanitizers and handwashing stands to three vulnerable institutions.
They are the Accra Psychiatry Hospital, Ghana Blind Union of the Ghana Federation of the Disable and the James Camp Prisons.
Each institution received 50 of the ATU produced 200ml sanitizer and two handwashing stands, also manufactured by the University, worth about GHC5,000.
The handwashing stand has been designed to hold a veronica bucket, a wastewater container, soap, waste bin, and hand paper towel.
Professor Edmund Ameko, the Pro Vice Chancellor of the ATU, who presented the items to the institutions in Accra on Friday, urged the public to respect the directive of the President.
He said the items were the maiden products of the University and called on the public to patronise them, as they had been certified by the Ghana Standards Authority.
Mrs Agnes Agudeu, the Principal Nursing Officer at the Accra Psychiatry Hospital, who received the items, thanked the ATU Team for the gesture and said it was a big relief.
“This has come at an opportune time because we were looking for resources to procure these items to enable us to contain the spread of the COVID-19,” she said.
At the Ghana Blind Union, Dr Peter Obeng-Asamoa, the Director of the Union, who received the items, thanked the management of the University for the gesture and commended the school for producing the items, which demonstrated their capabilities as a technical university.
