Indian High Commission launch 75th Independence anniversary celebrations with Bollywood night

Accra, Aug. 13, GNA – The Indian High Commission in Ghana has launched its 75th Independence Anniversary with a thrilling Bollywood showcase at the National Theatre on Friday.

The United India Dance Troupe thrilled the audience with some energetic cultural Bollywood performances as well as numerous film documentaries showcasing the rich culture of the second-most populous country in the world.

Speaking at the launch of its week-long anniversary celebrations starting on Monday 15 August (India’s Independence Day), Mr. Sugandh Rajaram, the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, said it was significant to mark this celebration as they look to foster unity between the two countries.

“We have been an important partner for Ghana over the years, especially in areas of the economy. The people-to-people relations between Ghana and India have been strengthened over the years and we are looking to strengthen them further,” he said.

Mr. Rajaram noted that they had assembled over 20-member cultural groups from India who would perform across Ghana as part of its celebrations.

Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, former First Lady of the Republic congratulated India as they marked their 75th Independence Anniversary, labelling them as a vital development partner for Ghana.

“We are here to celebrate India and also see them as a part of Ghana’s development. I would also like to encourage more bilateral relationships that promote unity between Ghana and India especially in the area of trade,” she said.

Dignitaries present at the launch include Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu, Majority Leader in Parliament, Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Madam Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adje, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister of Information and his Deputy Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, among other foreign diplomats.
