Qualification to 2025 AFCON still in our hands – Ghana coach Otto Addo

Accra, Oct. 11, GNA – Otto Addo – Black Stars Head Coach, remains optimistic about Ghana’s qualification to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), noting that it was still in their hands.

Ghana’s Black Stars were held to a goalless draw by Sudan’s Falcons at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, denying them the chance to finish second in Group F.

With multiple Black Stars players squandering some glorious opportunities, Otto Addo believes bad luck prevented them from taking all three points.

“Look, this assurance that everybody’s talking about, why? For what? This is football. I cannot even assure, maybe God would take me tomorrow and I’m dead.

“What can I assure? We would try our best. And I know that at the end we’ll be rewarded. And the positive thing is, what I want to tell you, all of you, it’s still in our own hands.

“We have to win the next game, that’s all. And then still, we are not qualified yet. Then it’s still a long way. It’s going to be very, very tough to the last match, I think.

“But we would do it. With this performance, again, we would do it in Libya, against Sudan,” the gaffer said.

When asked about his plans for a reverse fixture, Otto Addo said they were in a must-win situation to put their qualification hopes back on track.

“I am not interested in any records or whatsoever. I want to win the next game, and then the world looks different, that’s all. All these statistics and this and that, it’s like that.

“What can I do? We can only look forward and look for the next match and try to score, that’s all. We will try as much as we did today, and then it will be rewarded. That’s all I can say,” Otto Addo stated.

The highly anticipated reverse fixture against Sudan will be played on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 13:00 GMT.
