Israel launches fresh attacks in Lebanon and Gaza Strip

Tel Aviv, Oct 20, (dpa/GNA) – The Israeli army said on Saturday, that it is maintaining its attacks on the Shiite militia Hezbollah in Lebanon, and Palestinian extremist group Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In southern Lebanon, Nasser Abed al-Aziz, Hezbollah’s deputy commander in the Bint Jbeil area near the shared border, was killed in the latest operations, the military said in a statement.

Ground troops supported by the air force, also killed numerous fighters and unearthed weapons depots of the Iran-backed militia, it added.

The information could not immediately be independently verified.

In Gaza, where Israeli forces on Wednesday killed Hamas leader Yehya al-Sinwar, ground troops killed several “terrorists” in the southern city of Rafah and in Jabalia in the north of the sealed-off coastal area, the military said.

This information could not be independently verified either.

Israel wants to expel Hezbollah from the border area with Lebanon, and destroy Hamas, in response to its massacre in Israel of around 1,200 people in October 2023.
