GhIPSS extends annual breast cancer awareness programme to people within its vicinity

Accra, Oct. 28, GNA-Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS) has expanded its annual breast cancer awareness programme to include people living within the Ridge enclave of Accra.

The week-long initiative, held annually since 2016, aims to raise awareness about breast cancer.

This year’s programme culminated in a screening exercise for both men and women as part of the company’s efforts to promote early detection.

The campaign aligns with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed worldwide every October, which seeks to increase attention and support for breast cancer awareness, early diagnosis, treatment, and palliative care.

According to the Ministry of Health, approximately 1.7 million new cases and 522,000 deaths from breast cancer occur globally each year, making it the most common cancer among women.

The incidence of breast cancer is rising, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, due to factors such as increased life expectancy, changing reproductive patterns, and lifestyle changes.

GhIPSS’ decision to extend the programme reflects its commitment to staff wellbeing and social responsibility.

Ebow Allen-Koufie, Head, HR & Administration at GhIPSS, in an interview said that the company invests in staff welfare and continually explores new ways to support their overall health.

He mentioned the recent commissioning of a gym at the company’s premises as part of this commitment.

By offering breast cancer screening to people in its vicinity, GhIPSS aims to foster good relationships with the community and contribute to societal wellbeing.

GhIPSS, the national payment infrastructure provider, has played a key role in modernizing Ghana’s payment systems.

In collaboration with banks, FinTechs, and other partners, it has introduced several innovative products, including Cheque Codeline Clearing, Automated Clearing House (ACH), GhanaPay, GhQR, and Mobile Money Interoperability. These innovations have significantly transformed payment systems across the country.
