Tamale, Oct 21, GNA – The Informal Apprenticeship of the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Ghana TVET) Service has held a capacity building workshop for 60 master craft persons, leaders of some trade associations and entrepreneurs in the Northern Region.
It was to enhance their capacity on leadership and TVET reforms and gender-based violence issues.
The event dubbed: “Skills Upgrading Workshop”, was held in Tamale in collaboration with the Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-Ghana), an NGO.
Miss Humaimatu Abdul-Wahab, Northern Regional Head, Informal Apprenticeship, Ghana TVET Service, speaking during the training, said it was to enhance participants’ capacity to lead and manage their apprentices with minimal confrontations and controversies at their workplaces.
She said it was also to sensitise them on issues of sexual and gender-based violence including reporting platforms and mechanisms.
She said the training also provided the platform to clarify the roles and responsibilities of both master craft persons and their apprentices to avoid incidents of maltreatment and to promote cordial and mutual understanding and respect amongst them.
She called for continuous support and the need to empower the master craft persons to drive positive change in the TVET sector and to help integrate the SGBV awareness and prevention at the workplace.
Hajia Alima Sagito-Saeed, Executive Director of SWIDA-Ghana, urged participants to demonstrate more professionalism, hard work and innovative approach to their work to attract the needed support to help boost their businesses.
She underscored the need for them to speak up on issues of SGBV at the workplace to ensure the perpetrators were dealt with to deter others from engaging in such acts.
Participants thanked the partners for their support for empowering and enhancing their capacity.
