Accra, Sept. 11, GNA – The year-on-year inflation rate fell for the fifth consecutive time in August to 20. 4 per cent compared to 20.9 per cent in the previous month, the Ghana Statistical Service said on Wednesday.
This means that in the month of August 2024, the general price level was 20.4 percent higher than August 2023.
Month-on-month inflation between July and August 2024 was -0.7 percent.
Professor Samuel Anim, the Government Statistician at a press briefing said the Consumer Price Index for August 2024 was 229.4 relative to 190.6 for August 2023.
He said food inflation contributed 19.1 per cent to all inflation compared to last month’s food inflation of 21.5 per cent with the month-on-month food inflation being -2.2 per cent.
Meanwhile, non-food inflation also contributed 21.5 per cent, compared to last month’s non-food inflation of 20.5 per cent with the month-on-month being 0.7 per cent.
Inflation for imported items was 16.1 per cent compared to that for locally produced items, which was 22.2 per cent.
On the regional Inflation basis, the Upper East maintained the records with the highest inflation rate of 27.8 per cent, while the North East Region also maintained a record rate of 10.1 per cent as the lowest regional inflation.
