Ho, Sept. 9, GNA – Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has commended the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) for living up to its mandates for the past five decades.

He said the Authority and the Ministry of Roads and Highways contributed towards the development and expansion of road networks across the region for the past 50 years.

Dr Letsa in his address during the 50th anniversary celebration launch of the Ghana Highway Authority held in Ho said the Authority had successfully delivered on its mandate through the initiation and completion of several types of road projects.

He said the hard work, fortitude, and determination of the former Regional Directors of the Authority had contributed to the massive development of the trunk road network in the region, with the resultant effect of accelerating the socio-economic development of the region.

Dr Letsa said the future of the Authority was bright and full of unimaginable successes.

He said that more roads in the region had been earmarked for upgrading works to further boost socio-economic activities as well as to improve accessibility to social amenities such as hospitals, schools and market centres.

Dr Letsa said government was committed to providing the necessary support to the Ghana Highway Authority to enable it to continue to improve the road network in the region that fell in its domain.

He said the theme chosen for the anniversary was appropriate and fitted well into the government’s resolve to improve the surface quality of the road network across the country.

The celebration was on the theme: “Providing Safe and Reliable Trunk Road Network for Socio-Economic Development.”
