Dambai (O/R), Aug 31, GNA – Residents of KpareKpare, a farming community in the Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, are calling on the authorities to complete an abandoned mechanised borehole in the area.
Sources revealed that the abandoned community water project was initiated by the former member of parliament (MP) for Krachi East, Mr. Michael Yaw Gyato, in 2019.
The project at KpareKpare community, which is at an advanced stage of completion, has a borehole drilled with a wire fence and a concrete water tank stand and a poly-tank stalled for the past five years.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the residents said it was expected that the project when completed would serve as a relief for women and children, who walked long distances on daily basis to access potable water.
Madam Rosemary Jai and others said the stalled project had a toll on women and affected children’s education in the community.
Mr Isaac Kaliwa, the Assembly member of the electoral area, said the stalled water project had forced community members to walk long distances to access potable water.
The Assembly Man said all efforts to get the attention of the Municipal Assembly to commission the mechanised borehole had yielded no results.
Nana Atta Foster Owusu III, Chief of KpareKpare, expressing his frustration, told the GNA that the community had not only suffered a water crisis but also deteriorated road access to link part of Krachi East.
He expressed unhappiness with the state of development in the area and appealed for attention.
