Zagyuri (N/R), Oct 24, GNA – A fully-furnished three-unit classroom block with a urinal has been handed over to the Zagyuri Anglican Primary School in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region, to ensure a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The handing over of the facility to the school’s authorities paved the way for some of the schoolchildren in the old six-unit classroom block, which is in a deplorable state, to be moved to the new facility.
It was constructed by Markaz-A-Bishara Child Development Progrmme and the Parent Teacher Association of the school with funding support from Children Believe, an international child-centered non-government organisation.
Madam Esenam Kavi De Souza, Country Director of Children Believe, speaking handing over ceremony, said Children Believe was committed to addressing barriers to children’s education, hence committing resources to undertake the project.
Madam De Souza expressed the need for more investment in the Basic Education sector to make the learning environment conducive for children.
She encouraged parents to prioritise the education of their children, especially the girl-child, urging members of the community to take good care of the facility.
Mr Mohammed Ahmed Yakubu, Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, whose speech was read on his behalf, listed a number of projects undertaken by Markaz-Al-Bishara Child Development Programme in the municipality and lauded the partners for their support for development initiatives in the area.
Mr Alhassan Alidu Jr, Sagnarigu Municipal Director of Education, whose speech was read on his behalf, described the facility as a wonderful intervention to promote quality education in the area.
Madam Rukaya Bawa Ayamga, Headmistress of Zagyuri Anglican Primary School, expressed gratitude to the partners for constructing the facility and appealed to the Municipal Assembly to help rehabilitate the old structure or construct a new one to accommodate all the over 500 children of the school.
Mr Jonathan Salifu, Chairman of the School Management Committee expressed joy at the completion of the project and pledged to ensure care and maintenance of it to serve the area for a long time.
Naa Abdulai Napodo, Chief of Zagyuri also commended the partners for their support and pledged the resolve of the community to take good care of the facility.
