Chaggu, (UW/R), Oct. 23, GNA – Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East Constituency, has invested about GHS 80,000.00 towards improving healthcare outcomes in his constituency.
The investment is also to support timely community-led health interventions in the rural areas.
The MP provided support through the provision of bags of cement, roofing sheets and cash amounts to help the communities complete health infrastructure projects they had initiated.
Mr Abu Baliffiamah, the Wa East Constituency Chairman, of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), handed over the items to the communities on behalf of the MP.
The beneficiary communities had taken steps to construct delivery rooms and maternity wards to help beef up health infrastructure at the health facilities and to reduce the challenges pregnant women faced in accessing maternal healthcare services, including skilled delivery.
The first beneficiary of five communities – Chaggu, Goripie, Manwe, Tinnebe and Loggu received between 30 bags to 20 bags of cement and cash amounts of GHȻ500.00 to GHȻ1,000.00 each.
Mr Baliffiamah said the donation was an indication of the MP’s commitment to helping to improve access to healthcare services in the constituency, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
“The MP is taking steps to support communities to have decent delivery rooms in all health facilities across the constituency.
“This is to ensure zero maternal death and infant mortality in the constituency,” he indicated.
Dr Jasaw told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that the poor road network in the Wa East Constituency was making access to quality healthcare services “in bigger and better health facilities” in Wa difficult as pregnant women were losing their lives in the process of childbirth.
“The support is ongoing. We have a few more communities to cover. It is better to improve the facilities in the communities to improve the quality of services pregnant women and children can receive,” the MP said.
Dr. Jasaw also donated footballs and football jerseys to those communities including Buffiamah community to help develop the football talents of the youth in the constituency.
Mr Rashid Sunday, an elder at Chagu, who received the items on behalf of the community, thanked the MP for the support.
He said the support would enable the community to complete their delivery room project on time to enhance timely access to quality maternal healthcare service for women in the community and beyond.
