Nsuaeman concerned citizens protest against ECG/KINGSPOK Company Limited

Nsuaem (W/R), June 12, GNA – Nsuaeman concerned citizens in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region, have staged a peaceful demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and KINGSPOK Company Limited.

They claimed the unprofessional conduct by the ECG and KINGSPOK Company Limited, a contractor rehabilitating the Nsuaem town roads had emotionally and psychologically affected them.

The demonstrators, led by their executives in red cloth, held placards with inscriptions such as: “ECG no power no bill”, “No ECG power, no bill because no light no work”, “ECG dumsor must end”, “last warning from Nsuaem”, matched through the community and the Tarkwa-Takoradi highway to show their displeasure.

Mr Louis Narkaah, Secretary of the group said, “one of the missions of ECG was to provide quality, reliable and safe electricity services to support the growth and development of the country, but in Nsuaem community it was the reverse”.

He said because of the frequent power outages in the area at night residents could confidently indicate that their lives were under threat, adding, armed robbery, theft and other social vices were on the increase because of the poor services ECG offered the community.

Mr Narkaah noted that, they want their service lines to be moved from Ahanta West to join that of Tarkwa- Nsuaem Municipality as soon as possible.

“We do not understand why our bills are so huge as compared to places such as Greater Accra and Kumasi. If the services are not improved, we will stop paying electricity bills” he indicated.

Mr Narkaah expressed worry over the situation and emphasized that because of the power crisis lots of businesses have collapsed and they cannot pay their bills.

Meanwhile, the group have also asked KINGSPOK Company Limited to speed up work on the inner roads in Nsuaem township, stressing that, the shoddy activities of the contractor must cease.

The spokesperson said, “The manholes in the middle of the road, uncompleted drains which caused flooding in the community whenever it rained, and pipelines damaged has resulted in water shortage due to the contractor’s actions must be fixed”.

The group later presented a petition to the management of both companies, who pleaded with them to remain calm.
