Nadowli, (UW/R), GNA -The Nadowli-Kaleo District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged school pupils in the district to remind them of their responsibility in helping to sustain the country’s democratic gains.
The engagement, which formed part of the celebration of this year’s Citizenship Week, saw officers from the NCCE and the Nadowli Traditional Council impart virtues of good citizenship to over 3,000 school children from 22 basic schools in the district.
Speaking at the launch of the week-long event at Nadowli, Mr Emmanuel Tambile Der, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Director of the NCCE, urged the pupils to acquire skills that would enable them to become responsible citizens to contribute their quota to building a strong, vibrant and democratic Ghana.
The Citizenship Week celebration was introduced by the NCCE in 2012 to remind basic school pupils of their civic responsibilities and to impart virtues of good citizenship to the school children.
This year’s Citizenship Week, which was observed from 26th May to 1st June 2022, was on the theme, “Sustaining Our Democracy, Ghanaian Values in Practice: The Role of the Child”.
“I encouraged you the school pupils and the teachers to be civic conscious and to acquire or develop civic skills, civic knowledge, and civic disposition, which are vital for the sustenance of Ghana’s 30 years of democratic gains”, he said.
On his part, Mr Evarist Danaah, the Secretary to the Nadowli Traditional Council, encouraged the pupils to demonstrate the spirit of good citizenship as they grow up and to eschew behaviours that had the tendency to derail national unity and peace.
He urged them to exhibit their civic responsibilities as Ghanaian children by reporting crimes in and around their communities and respecting the elderly and lawful authority in society.
