Effia (WR), June 24, GNA- MTN Ghana has organised an education programme for some selected youth groups on how to use various digital platforms for business, entertainment and education.
The programme formed part of the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, a social responsibility activity organised by the staff of MTN.
The education programme was on how to use social media such as Facebook and other apps ‘Ayoba and MyMTN.’
The youth were also exposed to the use of MTN applications such as MyMTN and Ayoba as well as good customer service and book-keeping, among others to better their businesses, especially in marketing.
This year’s celebration is on the theme: “Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery.”
Mr Kennedy Kofi Fosuhene, the MTN Corporate Affairs for Southern Ghana, said the training would equip those in business and individuals, who are yet to start business on the right social marketing plan and tools.
“The focus of Y’ello Care 2022 is on empowering communities to drive economic recovery, with a strong focus on training and opportunities for job creation, particularly within the context of a digital world.”
He said it aligned with the continuous drive towards the core belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life.
Mr Prince Owusu Nyarko, the Senior Manager of MTN Ghana South West, during the training, explained that “we are now recovering from COVID and we see that many young people have lost their jobs; we decided to partner DuapaWerkspace (an IT Hub) to train these youth to get back to business and be able to market what they are doing and to help with economic growth.”
He said further: “As we enter the fourth Industrial revolution with a new strategic focus on digital skills for digital jobs, starting off our Y’ello Care initiatives by focusing on empowering communities to drive economic recovery after COVID-19 through training, upskilling, and knowledge sharing will create lasting and sustainable change.”
Mr Erasmus Mensah Ackon, the Chief Executive of Duapa Werkspace, explained that “when COVID came, it exposed a lot of businesses and we looked at the digital tools that can help businesses to grow and record keeping is one of them.”
The ‘21 Days of Y’ello Care’ campaign is an annual employee volunteerism initiative launched by MTN in 2007 to secure high participation levels by staff in high impact social projects in their local communities.
Since its inception 15 years ago, the campaign has proven to be a phenomenal success that profiles MTN as a caring and socially responsible company.
Each year MTN strives to improve upon the effectiveness of the campaign.
