Abesim-Sunyani, Feb. 21, GNA- Mr Peter Kwabena Gyasi, the Deputy Bono Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has called on basic school teachers to help instil a high sense of patriotism in school children.
He said children were the future leaders of the country hence the need to inculcate the core values of justice, accountability, integrity, honesty and nationalism to enable them to grow to become useful and national assets.
Mr Gyasi made the call when he addressed students, pupils and teachers of the Abesim Roman Catholic Primary and Junior High School in the Sunyani Municipality at a sensitization forum, organised by the Commission.
The forum was on the theme: “Sustaining Our Democracy, Ghanaian Values in Practice” and aimed at creating awareness of Ghanaian core values.
“Students and pupils must be guided to learn to emulate the core values of our nation so that they would become nationalistic with love for the nation,” Mr Gyasi stated.
He said honesty and integrity were key elements required for fighting bribery and corruption, which remained the bane of accelerated national development.
Mr Gyasi advised the school children to report crime and any form of abuse against them to the school authorities.
Mr. Boadu Gyamfi, the Headmaster of the School, expressed gratitude to the Commission, saying the forum had enlightened both the teachers and students and advised the students to avoid unhealthy behaviours that could truncate their education and ruin their future.
