Michael Opoku elected Ashanti Regional NALAG Representative

Akomadan (Ash), Feb.18, GNA – Mr Michael Opoku, Presiding Member for the Sekyere South District Assembly, has been elected as the Ashanti Regional Representative of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG).

He received an overwhelming endorsement of all the 215 qualified voters in an election supervised by the Ashanti Regional Office of the Electoral Commission, during the regional delegates’ conference of the Association held at Akomadan in the Offinso North District.

Mr Opoku, who is also the assembly member for the Bepoase Newtown Electoral Area, near Agona, will, thus, lead all NALAG activities in the region and represent all the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as all the Presiding and Assembly Members in the Ashanti, at the national level.

Mr Opoku speaking after the elections expressed appreciation to the members for the confidence reposed in him.

He promised to work with all Assembly members and other stakeholders to help project and uplift the image of NALAG.

Mr Opoku pledged to continue with the work of his predecessors and find means of liaising with the government to cushion the assembly members, going forward.

“I am determined to act as your mouthpiece to ensure that the welfare of members is achieved as they have been crying and campaigning for over the years,” he assured.

Mr Bismark Nkoom Beisie, President of NALAG, commended the delegates for the peaceful conduct of the conference and entreated them not to hesitate to come out with innovative ideas and suggestions to promote the Association.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony were Mr Kokuro Amankwaa, General Secretary of NALAG, Mr Joseph Owusu Programmes Officer, Mr Alexander Frimpong, Dean of MMDCES and Mr Ohemeng Prempeh, Dean of Presiding Members.
